Established in 2006, MerlionKids Education Group (MerlionKids) has preschools in Singapore, China and Sri Lanka.
MerlionKids Education Group has developed a unique set of cognitive neuroscience based curriculum that optimises cognitive executive functions of children’s brain and helps children to establish effective self-learning and adaptability before the age of 7. We also cooperate with various universities to train early childhood education and childcare specialists to provide sufficient human resources to the participating schools. In addition, both the MerlionKids’ research & development team, and the curriculum team continue to strengthen and enhance the credibility of teaching pedagogies, materials and teachers’ training, so that the Singapore MerlionKids brand is deeply rooted in different countries.
In the process of assisting the establishment and opening of franchise schools, MerlionKids' policy is to ensure one-stop guidance, from site selection, design, decoration, recruitment and training of teachers, enrolment and opening, etc. After the opening of centre, it will provide timetable, curriculum materials and lesson plans for preschools. At the same time, periodic audits of on-site operating systems will be conducted to ensure consistent implementation of MerlionKids teaching principles and standard.
According to MerlionKids' financial calculations, each participating school can get back its investment principal in about three years, and earn 25% of its total revenue every year. The market development managers of MerlionKids will work with individual operator to calculate the actual expected financial statements according to individual operating cities and locations. Only when the investment and operators are satisfied with the overall plan, the relevant franchise plan can be put into practice. It takes as fast as 3 months from initial discussion to the official opening.
Another quicker way is to take over existing preschools and franchise MerlionKids brand by re-training principals, teachers and staff the MerlionKids’ teaching principles, pedagogies, usage of teaching materials, putting up the MerlionKids’ look and feel, and conducting of parental workshops, seminars. MerlionKids will also be assisting the franchisees in marketing and enrolment of students.
MerlionKids could work with local education associations to provide continuous professional development (CPD) courses for the local teachers. MerlionKids could also integrate and improvise teaching pedagogies suitable for the local children.
There are about 10% of children and adolescents suffer mental health issues worldwide. In the past two years, MerlionKids Education Group has also committed to establishing a comprehensive inclusive diagnostic assessment test (DAT), inclusive day-care centre (for children diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder [ASD]), inclusive therapy and counselling centre for children with special needs. In this regard, we will work with hospitals and private organisations that are interested in inclusive education.
Our Merlion Academy, a training arm of MerlionKids Education Group offers diploma courses from Pearson and OTHM.
Besides working with single unit franchisees, MerlionKids is also keen to work with area master franchisees that are able to take up ten to twenty franchise licenses in the country.

Structured And Rigorous Programme
MerlionKids bilingual thematic neuroscience-based curriculum consists of 190 interactive and exploratory activities books and 1500 lesson plans.
Theme based units are a vehicle for teaching a range of skills and content by integrating curriculum areas around a topic. This method of teaching links curriculum strands and capitalizes on children's interests, creating a sense of purpose and community in the classroom. By building on their interests and life experiences, young children's attitudes, skills and knowledge are developed in meaningful ways. The theme books provide a systematic and sequential continuum for building skills and concepts from PG to K2. 1. MerlionKids International Preschool, Singapore opened in Sri Lanka
MerlionKids International Preschool has preschools in Singapore and China, which follow the International Childhood Education Curriculum framework and renowned Singapore Kindergarten Curriculum framework, supported by the play and inquiry-based (Inquire-Think-Learn) Multiple-Intelligence Integrated approach to learning. 2. MerlionKids' China management team’s visit to Shanghai Normal University Tianhua College
MerlionKids' China management team was invited to visit Shanghai Normal University Tianhua College on 9 Dec 2019. The college was established in 2005 and in 2019, it established a preschool training center to equip qualified early childhood development (ECD) teachers to meet demands for good ECD teachers. Both teams exchanged pedagogies, knowledge and experiences. Derrick Tan, Chairman of MerlionKids Education Group shared about how his international academic team develop their neuroscience-based curriculum and how the multiple intelligence activities nurture children happily in their learning journey.
CCTV Interview
The Chairman of MerlionKids Education Group was interviewed in China Central Television (CCTV) "Influence Of Dialogue" in 2015 to share about how MerlionKids pedagogies and programmes use neuroscience-based curriculum and multiple intelligence activities to help brain development in stages. As an educator themself, they felt that it was important to inculcate in children good learning attitudes and habitual thinking, to equip them with strong literacy and reading skill for self-expression of own emotions and communicating of their desires, self-regulation of emotion to be better interacting with other children and self-discovery to discover more about themselves, what they like and their interests.
